Past student work - Revenge

This opening keeps us intrigued and wanting to know more as we know a crime has been committed however we don't know anything else that is happened. Therefore we want to carry on watching to find out. However I feel as though this opening was a little short, but this is my only criticism.

Narrative:
·         A girl is telling someone (a police officer?) her account of when she was attacked
·         we see her being attacked
·         however we do not know what else the man has done - but it feels as though he has done worse than we have seen as the girl is fine but still giving a serious account

Mise En Scene:
·         Antagonist dressed all in black - creates mystery as we cannot see him, and black is also a common colour in thriller films as it establishes who is good/bad
·       Girl is wearing white - associated with innocence and therefore we establish that she is good
·         use of phones - associated with the target audience of young adults and therefore we are able to associate ourselves with the character
·         Filing cabinet - makes us feel as though it is a police office and therefore someone is breaking in. This is an example of crime which is a common theme in thrillers.

Sound:
·         sad music - makes us sympathise with the girl and therefore illustrates she is the victim
·         Non-diegetic/voice over - shows the girl is describing what happened to her and therefore helps us work out what's going on
·         Ends with very loud music with a dramatic bass tone - this creates tension and puts the audience on edge

Editing:
·         Slow motion of a knife being put into a bag - shows it will be significant later on even though we do not see it again in the intro
·         Reverse motion of the girl being attacked shows us she was in pain and also emphasises that it is an important moment
·         Fade from the bag to the rest of the intro - creates a connection between the two, however we are not sure what it is
·         Blurry effect creates mystery as we can't quite see everything

Camerawork:
·         Wide shot  of her walking - almost seems like a POV shot and therefore makes the audience feel as though she is being watched
·         mid shot of the girls face and man behind her - shows she is in danger and also indicates he is the antagonist
·         Mid shot of cabinet - shows us what is going on but also allows us to see the titles

Title sequence:
·         Clever idea as it makes it feel as though someone is stealing police files while also showing us the director, producer and actors
