Shutter island is about a US. Marshal Teddy who is investigating the disappearance of a patient who has escaped from the hospital and is hiding near by. Classical music is a huge part of this scene because its played all the way through. The reason for this is because some parts of the song show emotion but then some parts are happy?. We question this because normally we would have dramatic music during a thriller.

However this music is diegetic music however is shown to us off-screen while showing us the location, of where they are and also when showing the prisoners. The classic music gets higher when we are shown to the fourth character in the scene, this is because they are showing us he could be dangerous and a possible antagonist.
We see exaggerated sound shown also. This is when teddy gets angry and smashes the glass jar. We hear the pieces smash onto the floor very clearly. But around this we have more dramatic music because we then feel tense and suspicious to whats happening.
During this scene we see a cross-cut happening to other scenes that are very confusing and its hard to understand what they mean. We see that the music becomes louder and more dramatic when we see a man on the floor, covered with blood reaching for a gun. This murder helps us see crime and seeing crime helps us identify that it is a thriller. During theses scenes a sound bridge is brought in to link theses confusing scenes together. This helps make the scene smooth.

We can tell this is a thriller because of the blood and crime thats occurring. We don't understand why the murder has happened but we see that its the same man talking therefore makes us think maybe we are inside Ted's head and seeing his thoughts.
